US politicians bought from these altcoin projects
The officials’ statements came as Congress began enacting potential legislation to regulate cryptocurrencies. The list below does not include members of Congress who invest in private cryptocurrency exchanges and brokerage platforms, but instead only those that directly own underlying cryptocurrencies. According to Unusual Whales, there were six congressmen who bought and sold cryptocurrencies in 2021. The list is as follows:
- Alabama Representative Barry Moore: Moore, from the Republican Party, bought $45,000 of Cardano (ADA) and $15,000 of Ethereum (ETH) over the course of 2021.
- Illinois Representative Marie Newman:Newman from the Democratic Party bought the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) for $50,000.
- Tennessee Representative Mark Green:Green from the Republican Party, Basic Attention Token (BAT), Celo (CELO), Dogecoin (DOGE), Eos (EOS), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Chainlink with investments ranging between $15,000 and $30,000 (LINK) and Stellar (XLM) bought and sold.
- Florida Representative Michael Waltz: Waltz from the Republican Party bought $100,000 in Bitcoin (BTC).
- Pennsylvania Representative Partick Toomey: Toomey from the Republican Party bought from Grayscale Bitcoin Trust and Grayscale Ethereum Trust for $15,000 each.
- Senator Cynthia Lummis: Cynthia Lummis from the Republican Party bought $100,000 in Bitcoin (BTC).
