Blockchain platform Chia Network will provide technical services for Costa Rica’s climate change measurement system.
Chia Network said in a statement that the platform will provide technical services to Costa Rica’s national climate change measurement system (SINAMMEC).
The Costa Rican government has said that Chia will use blockchain technology to develop an open-source software platform to improve the management of climate inventory.
Chia Network will also operate national registers to “manage the carbon inventory, manage the climate register, and record trade-related adjustments to shift credits between countries.”
Created in 2018, SINAMECC is Costa Rica’s official platform for coordinating climate information and monitoring the country’s national climate change policy.
Costa Rican Minister of Environment and Energy Andrea Meza Murillo described the collaboration as “a critical step towards robust and transparent cooperation focused on environmental integrity”.
