In 2023 it takes a more minimalist approach, with less flashy profiles, colors, and apparently controls. While we can’t take a close look at all the dials and buttons yet, the devices look more restrained than models from previous years. In the past years, we have seen a washing machine whose feature is a purely extra washing machine. There was also a dryer with two doors. LG also once tried to create washing machines that can clean your clothes without using water.
This year’s devices, on the other hand, will feature a simpler design language, which LG calls an “elegantly clear control experience.” The company says it’s made its latest range to ensure it can “match any decor, color scheme or interior trend.” He used recycled materials in multiple machine parts, adding that his newest appliances require fewer total parts and less energy than typical kitchen appliances.
LG rolled up its sleeves for upgradeable white goods! Stop changing!
This seems to be in line with company announcements at the beginning of the year, where LG says it will offer upgradeability for home appliances. So far, this has included software upgrades that introduce new filters for certain use cases and new wash programs for washing machines. The company said it plans to offer 20 models with upgradeable features, but it doesn’t yet know how many of them will actually come to life. Simpler hardware could make it easier for LG to replace more important parts such as motors and heating elements to be even more efficient or effective. But does fewer buttons mean fewer features or less flexibility? We don’t know that yet.
LG will introduce its new device family at CES 2023. It’s always a show where the latest TVs, EVs, and more, as well as countless kitchen gadgets, sneak in, and the show kicks off in Las Vegas a week later.
