Cboe Global Markets (CBOE), one of the world’s leading options exchanges, announced today that it has agreed to acquire Eris Digital Holdings (ErisX), a spot and derivatives exchange for digital assets, as it seeks to become a major player in the cryptocurrency industry. He said they had arrived. ErisX will be renamed Cboe Digital.
The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed yet.
Cboe CEO Ed Tilly used the following statements in an interview:
“This is a great expansion opportunity. ”
Cboe launched bitcoin futures in December 2017, but withdrew the product in March 2019 amid declining volumes, saying it would reevaluate its digital asset derivatives plans.
“We are entering the digital asset spot market, derivatives, data and exchange ecosystem in one move,” Tilly said.
