According to The Guardian, users who couldn’t access the website were greeted with a message that said “something went wrong, but don’t worry – it’s not your fault”. Twitter has not yet made an official statement about the outage. The Twitter Support account did not tweet about it, and when some users shared that Twitter was broken, Elon Musk said that he had no problem loading the social network.
Twitter failed to serve thousands of users! Elon Musk investigates the cause of the collapse
On Christmas Eve, Musk announced that Twitter had disconnected one of its more sensitive server racks, but the social network was still working. Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion in October, months after initiating the acquisition and trying to evade the deal. Light Mater, director of research at internet monitoring service NetBlocks, told The New York Times that “problems with Twitter occur in multiple countries and are widespread.” Mater also said that “the platform API that serves many aspects of the mobile app as well as the desktop site was affected.”
