Accordingly, the rate of the inter-provincial immigrant population, which was 3.18 percent in the 2007-2008 period, became 3.28 percent in 2021, following a fluctuating course over the years.
In 2021, 2 million 777 thousand 797 people migrated between provinces in Turkey. Men constituted 47.5% of this population and women constituted 52.5%.
Istanbul was the province that received the most immigration with 385 thousand 328 people. Istanbul was followed by Ankara and Izmir.
Istanbul is also the province that gives the most immigrants with 408 thousand 165 people; Ankara followed it with 165 thousand 604 people and İzmir with 109 thousand 470 people. The provinces with the least immigration were Bayburt, Ardahan and Tunceli, respectively.
In Turkey, the largest migration mobility in terms of size in 2021 took place in the 20-24 age group.
The most important reason for migration was education.
When the other reasons for migration are examined, 570 thousand 224 people migrated dependent on one of the members of the household, while 429 thousand 752 people migrated due to better housing and living conditions.
