Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin spoke about Layer 2 scaling solutions at the Blockchain conference in China.
Speaking at the International Shanghai Blockchain Week, Vitalik Buterin stated that Layer 2 network scaling is the future of Ethereum and the only way to maintain decentralization.
Buterin acknowledged that there is a serious need to scale the network, that native solutions such as sharding may still be a long way off.
Buterin confirmed that base tier scaling will not be implemented until the final stage of the ETH 2.0 upgrade. He suggested that aggregations are an up-to-date solution that works well and should be adopted.
Vitalik Buterin made the following statements in his speech;
“Part chains will ship in 2022, depending on how far the work has progressed. ”
Until then, Layer 2 scaling seems like the only practical way to use it without having to spend a fortune on Ethereum gas fees.
Layer 2 protocols and aggregators have become increasingly popular as Ethereum shows no signs of a drop in transaction fees.
According to L2beat, which watched the scaling scene, the total value locked in L2 platforms reached a record $4 billion.
