Disney, one of the most important figures in the entertainment industry, may be the last company to step into the metaverse. The company appears to have been granted a patent for a virtual world simulator, according to a US Patent Office document. In fact, Disney is already using this technology on a small scale. However, this new technology will have a personalized structure. For example, Mickey Mouse will be able to greet a family passing by the store.
On the other hand, this move is not expected to happen anytime soon. Disney officials told the Los Angeles Times that they were in no rush to use virtual world simulator technology. In a statement on the subject, a Disney spokesperson used the following statements:
The spokesperson also added that Disney files hundreds of patent applications each year as it explores emerging technologies. Incorporating the Metaverse into theme parks aligns with Disney’s vision of telling stories through a three-dimensional canvas. CEO Bob Chapek had this to say about this vision during Disney’s fourth earnings meeting:
On the other hand, Disney may not use this patent at all. As it is known, companies like Disney can make such patent applications to prevent their competitors from being the first in the field.
