Kosovo government will ban cryptocurrency mining to deal with energy crisis.
The country’s Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, took action on the recommendation of the Technical Committee for Emergency Measures in Energy Supply on 31 December 2021, as part of a series of measures.
The committee’s recommendations include “banning cryptocurrency production across the region.”
The government has declared a 60-day state of emergency, allowing it to allocate more money to energy imports and impose power cuts, Gazeta Express reported.
This move of Kosovo is similar to the action taken by Iran. Iran announced on December 28 that it would ban crypto mining until March 6, 2022 to save energy and prevent power outages.
