Millions of people are waiting for statements from both the minimum wage and EYT. TÜSİAD President Orhan Turan continued his statements on the subject. Turan stated that the time has come for a conversation for all of Turkey, and said that the most important priority is the fight against inflation.
With the start of the last two weeks of 2022, the two most important issues of Turkey were 2023 minimum wage and retirement age (EYT). While the minimum wage figure for 2023 is expected to be announced tomorrow, there is no definite statement about EYT yet. However, it is among the topics discussed that the conditions related to EYT will become difficult for retired candidates.
TÜSİAD President Orhan Turan answered questions about the subject to Handan Sema Ceylan from Ekonomim.
Turan stated that while the economic difficulties are deepening, it is time not only to increase welfare, but also to discuss how welfare will be shared fairly. Pointing out that the 3% growth projected for 2023 will not be enough for Turkey, Turan stated that TÜSİAD will launch a discussion platform on different topics for the ‘centennial year’ and noted that it is now ‘time to talk’ for all of Turkey.
Minimum wage
Making statements about the minimum wage, Turan said, “I have already stated that the employees should not be crushed by inflation. In the private sector, wage increases were made at the beginning of the year and throughout the year. As you know, the minimum wage is determined jointly by the workers’, employers’ confederations and the state within the framework of social dialogue. I hope the right step will be taken. On the other hand, as long as the increase in inflation cannot be prevented, the melting power of employees against inflation cannot be prevented. Fighting inflation should be the first priority,” he said.
EYT
Turan said, “It is important to resolve the issue of EYT, which has been on the agenda of working life for a long time.” We hope that the EYT works carried out in consultation with the working life stakeholders will be resolved in a way that will both protect the rights of the employees and alleviate the difficulties that the enterprises may face.”
