Hong Kong law enforcement arrests seven people who kidnapped a cryptocurrency investor. According to the authorities, more people linked to the crime could be arrested during the investigation.
In the incident that took place on November 6, a 39-year-old man met potential buyers in an industrial building while trying to convert his Tether (USDT) to Hong Kong dollars. He was then attacked. Hijackers seeking access to the investor’s crypto assets battered the kidnapper with metal chairs and hammers. Blindfolded, he was taken to a remote village.
The victim’s family filed a complaint with the police on November 9, and authorities determined the place where the victim was being held. The kidnappers demanded a $30 million ransom.
The victim was rescued by the police while escaping from the hut where he was held hostage. He was sent to the hospital because he was seriously injured.
