Barbados takes a historic step towards metaverse adoption. The country on Sunday signed an agreement with Decentraland to set up a digital embassy.
A historical move regarding the metaverse came from the island country of Barbados. The country has agreed with Decentraland, one of the largest and most popular crypto-powered digital worlds, to establish a digital embassy.
H. E. Gabriel Abed, Barbados ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, spoke on the subject and said that beyond this initial effort, the country plans to expand aggressively to build structures and purchase digital land in various virtual worlds:
With the launch of the embassy in January as an experimental effort, Barbados will become the first country in the world to recognize a digital sovereign territory. Abed also hinted that embassies would be a prelude to more ambitious economic plans in virtual worlds.
As it is known, the concept of metaverse was on the rise with the big move of social media giant Facebook. To emphasize its focus on the space, Facebook changed its name to Meta and announced a $50 million investment in the metaverse. After the news, world giants such as Nike and Microsoft took steps to the metaverse, while many metaverse projects also recorded great price jumps.
