Despite the global explosion of play-to-win games, Blockchain-based NFT video games continue to be banned in South Korea.
The popularity of MIR4, the play-to-win game developed by South Korea’s WeMade, is increasing. It ranks eighth among the most popular games on the cloud-based gaming platform Steam.
Game lovers in MIR4’s home base Korea cannot experience the full game. The local version of MIR4 does not include the play-to-win items available on the global server due to the current ban in South Korea. The chairman of Korea’s Gaming Rating and Management Committee recently stated that the NFT gaming ban will continue.
Committee chairman Kim Gyu-cheol spoke at the video game trade show G-Star last Saturday. He continued, reiterating that video game laws are restrictions against gambling or speculation;
Kim stated that the Committee would welcome blockchain-based games that do not include redeemable and tradable NFT items.
